ESSC Arrest 18 Suspected Kidnappers, Armed Robbers in Edo, Recover Arms, Charms

The Commander of Edo State Security Corps (ESSC), Mr. Friday Ibadin, has announced the arrested 18 suspected kidnappers and armed robbers in the State.

He disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, in Benin City, the State capital.

Ibadin who is a retired Commissioner of Police, said the suspects were arrested during a bush-combing exercise along Benin-Auchi Road, close to an Army checkpoint.

According to him, 17 of the suspects are non-indigenes of Edo, while one is from Agbede community, in Etsako West Local Government Area of the State.

“On February 14, 2025, while on patrol along Benin-Auchi Road by Eguedion Camp, close to Soldiers checkpoint, 2 persons were sighted holding guns. On sighting my men, they took to their heels. They were chased to a camp where 18 persons were arrested.

“17 of the 18 arrested suspects are non-indigenes while one is an indigene, from Agbede,” he said.

Items recovered from the suspects include 38 fully loaded locally-made guns and charms.

Ibadin who said the suspects have been handed over to the Divisional Police Officer in Agbede Police Station, called for synergy between the Corps and other security agencies in the State.
