Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to seven points after edging past Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 at Anfield on Sunday.
Despite a dominant first half, the Reds struggled after the break, failing to register a single shot on target, allowing Wolves to mount a strong second-half challenge.
Liverpool broke the deadlock in the 15th minute after mounting an early pressure. Luis Díaz showed quick reactions inside the six-yard box, using his body to nudge the ball past Wolves’ goalkeeper José Sá to make it 1-0.
The Reds almost doubled their lead in the 32nd minute when Diogo Jota found himself one-on-one with Sá, but the Wolves shot-stopper produced a stunning save to keep his side in the contest.
In the 35th minute, Sá was adjudged to have brought down an opponent in the box, prompting referee Simon Hooper to award a penalty. After a VAR review, the decision stood, and Mohamed Salah confidently converted in the 37th minute, blasting the ball into the roof of the net to put Liverpool 2-0 up.
Just five minutes into the second half, Marshall Munetsi had a golden opportunity to pull one back, but Alisson produced a superb save to deny him.
Liverpool thought they had extended their lead in the 51st minute when Salah found the net again, but his effort was ruled out for offside.
Further controversy struck in the 58th minute when the Reds were awarded another penalty, only for the decision to be overturned after a VAR review.
The visitors capitalized on Liverpool’s fading momentum in the 67th minute. Jean-Ricner Bellegarde set up Matheus Cunha on the edge of the box, and the Brazilian coolly slotted the ball into the bottom left corner to reduce the deficit to 2-1.
Despite relentless pressure from Wolves in the closing stages, Liverpool held firm, with Alisson once again proving crucial in goal.
