Edo Assembly Sacks All Political Appointees

The Edo State House of Assembly has sacked all political appointees working with the lawmakers.

The Speaker of the House, Blessing Agbebaku, announced the development at plenary sitting on Wednesday.

The affected appointees include Special Advisers, Senior Special Advisers, amongst others.

Agbebaku who said the termination of their appointments take immediate effect, however said their February salary will be paid.

He said the decision was taken collectively by the 24 lawmakers.

The Speaker disclosed that the affected persons were appointed by the members of the 8th Assembly on the assumption of office in June 2023.

“Upon our resumption as members of this House, some aides were appointed and members of the various constituencies sent their nominees for appointment.

“I think, it is two years now, and, I think the House has graciously agreed that those sets of appointee SAs and SSAs are hereby relieved of their appointments today, February 19, 2025.

“And we will meet consequently to know the next line of actions to take on that. They should receive this month’s [February 2025] salary,” he said.
