The Anambra State Police Command on Tuesday launched Operation Velvet, for the enforcement of the third-party insurance policy.
The enforcement followed the expiration of the widow period given to motorists by the Police and other traffic law enforcement agencies to obtain their third-party insurance certificate.
The State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, noted that Operation Velvet will address traffic congestion, car theft, and disregard for traffic rules and regulations in the State.
He added that it will promote responsible driving habits, provide financial protection for victims of road accidents and protect motorists’ properties.
“The enforcement of third-party insurance policies is in line with the provisions of Section 68 of the Insurance Act 2003.
“The Agencies involved in this operation include: the Police, Federal Road Safety Corps, Attorney General’s Office, Motor Licensing Office Anambra Road Maintenance Agency, Nigeria Civil Defense Corps, and other traffic agencies in the State.
“The Operation is to restore order, discipline, and safety on the state’s roads, making commuting easier and more secure for residents and visitors of the State,” Orutugu said.
