The impeached Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, forced his way to the Assembly complex on Thursday and announced his resumption as Speaker.
He forcefully took control of the Speaker’s office in the Assembly complex under heavy security escort, including armed policemen and Civil Defence officers.
His return coincided with the reported withdrawal of security aides assigned to the embattled new Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, following an order from the Inspector-General of Police.
Addressing journalists after reclaiming his office, Obasa insisted he had resumed his position.
“I’ve resumed, and I remain the Speaker of the Assembly,” he stated.
When asked if he had been reinstated, he responded, “I’ve never been removed.”
247nextnews.com reports that Obasa was impeached by the lawmakers on January 13, 2025, over allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement.
