The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has explained why Senator Adolphus Wabara was expelled from the party.
Wabara is PDP’s Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman and a former President of the Nigerian Senate.
His expulsion was confirmed in a statement signed by Abraham Amah and Peter Nwaokonko, Abia State PDP Chairman and Secretary respectively.
247nextnews.com learnt that decision to expel the embattled BOT Chairman was taken on Tuesday, following an emergency meeting held by the State Working Committee of the party.
The Abia State Working Committee was sequence to a report from the party’s Disciplinary Committee, which had been investigating allegations against Wabara.
The party’s statement said that after a thorough review of the Committees findings and recommendations regarding the expulsion of Senator Adolphus Wabara, the SWC unanimously approved the recommendation in the report.
It cited Articles 57(3) and 59(1) of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended) to justify its decision.
“In line with Article 57(3) and 59(1) of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended), which stipulates that an expelled member cannot exercise any rights or privileges within the party, the Abia State Executive Committee hereby recommends the immediate appointment of an Acting BoT Chairman by the National Working Committee (NWC) and the National Executive Committee (NEC) of our great party,” Amah said.
Adolphus Wabara’s troubles within the party in his State began several weeks ago when the Abia PDP SWC suspended him over alleged anti-party activities.
The National Working Committee of the party however intervened and declared the suspension null and void.
It was however gathered that the Wabara has also filed a suit in the law court to vacate the suspension.
