Anambra: Life Returns to Schools, Streets As CP Orutugu Launches Police Safe School Initiative

Life is gradually returning to public and private schools across Anambra, following the launching of ‘Police Safe School Initiative,’ by the State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu.

The initiative is a proactive proactive measures to ensure the safety of children, teachers and staff at their respective schools, especially on Mondays.


Orutugu who visited several schools in company of the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Ify Obinabo, bemoaned the negative impacts of the illegal sit-at-home order and how it has disrupted academic activities.

He was happy to see the schools filled to capacity, with children and teachers going about their activities without fear of attack.

In a related development, social life is now returning to major streets and the various communities in the State.

Orutugu who visited several streets in some of the towns and villages, expressed delight with the mammoth crowds that welcomed him.

He assured them that the police and other security agencies have taken over the streets, especially on Mondays, to sustain safety in the State.

The CP who commented Anambra residents on the improved social and economic activities on Mondays, urged them to go about their various businesses without fear of molestation.

Meanwhile, a statement by the Command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, explained that the Police Safe School Initiative focuses on preventing crimes, identifying and preventing potential security threats in schools.

The statement added that the initiative is aimed at building partnerships and collaborating with school administrators, parents, and local communities to promote safety and security, as well as providing support and resources to schools to enhance their security measures.

“The benefits include improved and enhanced safety and security for students, teachers and staff, reduced crime, reduced incidence of crime and violence in schools.

“Other benefits include increased confidence among students, parents and school staff, and a safer and more secure learning environment conducive to academic excellence,” the statement said.
