Public Engagement: Anambra CP Orutugu Partners SWAN For Police/Community Sports Competitions

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has proposed a partnership with the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), to organise sports competitions with the market community and other relevant stakeholders in the State.

Orutugu who disclosed this on Monday when he received members of the Anambra State Chapter of SWAN, in his office in Awka, said the sports competitions will promote a sense of community bonding and trust among the people and the police.

He described the initiative as a great way to promote social cohesion and improve communication between law enforcement agents and the public.

A statement by the Command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, noted that CP Orutugu’s commitment to community policing and public engagement is evident in his efforts to partner with various stakeholders, to end violent crimes in the State.

The statement added that it will create a positive and engaging environment for the public, and by so doing, showcase the importance of sports in building bridges between law enforcement agents and the community.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the SWAN Anambra State Chapter, Comrade Chimezie Ananso, thanked the CP for receiving the Association.

He expressed SWAN’s readiness to partner with the Command to actualize its goals.

Meanwhile, the Command and SWAN are reviewing the proposal to enable them to select the participants and the theme of the competition accordingly.
