A 10-year-old son of a police officer, Inspector Okolie Amechi, has accidentally shot and killed his father with his assigned AK-47 rifle.
The tragic incident occurred in the evening of Sunday, June 15, 2025, in Awka, Anambra State, South-East Nigeria.
According to a statement by the Anambra Police Command’s Spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the boy accidentally pulled the trigger of the rifle, killing his father and injuring his sibling in the process.
“The son unaware of the state of the AK-47 rifle assigned to the Inspector, pulled the trigger and struck the Inspector on the back and his second child on the hand.
“Regrettably, Inspector Amechi was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty at the hospital, while the second victim was said to be responding to treatment,” the statement said.
It added that the AK-47 rifle has been recovered while the remains of the deceased have been deposited in the morgue.
