The Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, has urged administrators in the education sector to implement government policies to improve the lots of children, schools and the nation at large, despite the daunting challenges in the sector.
Alausa stated this on Wednesday, at the selection and placement exercise of qualified candidates into the Federal Technical Colleges (FTCs) across the country, under the Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) scheme.
The event was hosted by the National Business and Technical Education Board (NABTEB), in Benin, Edo State.
The Minister who was represented at the event by the Director, Technical and Science Education in the Ministry, Dr (Mrs) Muibat Adebike Olodo, noted that the Nigeria Education Sector Renual Initiative (NESRI), is aimed at shifting Nigeria from a resource-dependent to a knowledge-driven economy.
Alausa who disclosed that the federal government has established two additional technical colleges in Enugu and Plateau states respectively, added that the Ministry will soon carry out a needs assessment and industry mapping, aimed at improving infrastructure, personnel and students’ field work experience.
“This initiative focuses on six key priority areas: advancing STEMM, strengthening TVET, reducing out-of-school children, promoting girl-child education, leveraging data digitalisation, and enhancing the quality of education.
“Apart from increasing access to Technical Education through the establishment of FTCs and incentivisation of TVET, the Ministry—through the efforts of the Honourable Minister and his team—has transformed the “DOTS” policy into the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI).
“In the same vein, the Ministry has unveiled the National Policy on Skills Development, and plans are underway to disseminate and sensitise stakeholders across the States,” he said.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of NABTEB, Dr. Mohammed Aminu Mohammed, urged the participating Principals of Federal Technical Colleges across the country to be fair and committed in deciding the fate of all applicants.
“Today, we are here to decide the fate of many Nigerian youths seeking admission into Federal Technical Colleges. I urge you all to be fair and committed in your decision to all applicants.
“It is our resolve in NABTEB that at the end of this selection exercise, every successful candidate should be able to check his/her result on NABTEB portal as soon as possible and immediately proceed to collect their admission letters from their respective school of admission,” he said.
247nextnews.com reports that a total of 29,200 candidates sat for the examination at 203 centers, conducted by NABTEB simultaneously nationwide on June 14, 2025.
