The Brazilian Football Federation has named Carlo Ancelotti new manager of its national team.
The 65-year-old Italian who leaves Real Madrid later this month, has agreed a deal with the BFF and is due to begin his role on May 26.
His final match in charge of Madrid will be at home to Real Sociedad the previous weekend, concluding the La Liga season.
Mirror reports that Ancelotti will wave goodbye to the Bernabeu after a trophy-laden second spell which so far includes two Champions League crowns and two Spanish titles.
Having returned to Madrid in 2021, the former Chelsea and Everton boss still had one year left on his contract but club chiefs have agreed to part ways after a disappointing season.
Real have been dominated by arch rivals Barcelona this season, with Sunday’s 4-3 defeat all but securing Hansi Flick’s team the league title.
That was their fourth loss to Barca this season, two of which were in domestic cup finals. Ancelotti will be replaced by Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso, who’s already confirmed to be leaving his current position.
Brazilian businessman Diego Fernandes has brokered the deal on behalf the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) after months of speculation.
Ancelotti becomes the first foreigner to manage the five-time World Cup winners, who sacked Dorival Junior in March amid their World Cup qualifying campaign.
There’d been suggestions that the 65-year-old would stay on at Madrid to oversee their Club World Cup campaign in June and July.
But Alonso is expected to be in the dugout for Los Blancos, who need to win their final three games of the season and hope that Barcelona collapse to have any hope of lifting the title.
