Four operatives of Edo State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), have been artested for their alleged involvement in alleged brutality that resulted in the death of a Bolt driver, Henry Osewenkhai.
The deceased, a father of two, took a passenger to a popular hotel located off Limit Road, off Sapele Road, on Tuesday.
It was gathered that an altercation ensued between him, some yet-to-be-identified youths and the NSCDC operatives.
An eye witness who gave his name as Festus Nwabuzor, related what transpired to journalists during a peaceful protest to the Secretariat of the Edo State council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
He alleged that their colleague was beaten up and molested by the NSCDC officials after he dropped off a passenger who booked his service to the hotel.
Nwabuzor further explained that the bolt driver was about driving out of the hotel when he was suddenly stopped by some suspected Yahoo boys lurking around the car park of the hotel, who accused him of almost hitting them.
During a heated argument between the driver and the suspected Yahoo boys, it was gathered that the Yahoo boys contacted the NSCDC officers who allegedly were providing security for the hotel.
The security operatives who hurriedly moved to the scene, allegedly joined the youths to beat up the driver mercilessly.
Confirming the incident, the State Police Command spokesman, CSP Moses Yamu, disclosed that the victim made a formal complaint to police after the incident.
He, however, expressed shock when he heard that the victim had passed away due to the internal injuries he sustained from the brutal attack by the youths and the NSCDC operatives.
Yamu who confirmed that the four NSCDC operatives have been arrested over the matter, assured the family of the victim and the public of proper investigation into the death of the Bolt Driver.
