The Edo State House of Assembly on Tuesday ammended the State’s Anti Kidnapping Law 2013, and passed a new Kidnapping Prohibition Law 2025.
The new Kidnapping Prohibition Law approves death sentence for offenders.
The Majority Leader, Charity Aiguobarueghian, had moved the motion for the House to desolve into the Committee-of-the-Whole to consider the Bill clause-by-clause.
The motion was seconded by the Minority Leader, member representing Owan East, Henry Okaka.
During the clause-by-clause consideration, the lawmakers ammended the existing law 2013, which had provided for life imprisonment and confiscation of property allegedly used for kidnapping
The amended law now provides stiffer penalty of death sentence and confiscation of property used in the act.
