The Executive Chairman of Edo State Sports Commission, Desmond Enabulele, on Thursday disclosed that the upcoming State Sports Festival will serve as a platform for young athletes in the state to excel both nationally and internationally.
According to a statement by his media aide, Edoko Wilson Edoko, Enabulele disclosed this when he held a meeting with the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Lucky Eseigbe.
He expressed confidence that many promising talents would be discovered and nurtured through the Sports Festival.
247nextnews.com reports that the State sports fiesta is scheduled to hold between April 21 and May 1, 2025, with the aim of fostering spirit of competition and unity among athletes across the State.
The Sports Commission boss who noted that the festival aligns with the sports development plan of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration, added that it will also help prepare athletes for the forthcoming National Sports Festival, holding in Abeokuta, Ogun State, from May 16 to 30, 2025.
He urged Mr. Eseigbe to galvanize support from the acting chairmen across the 18 Local Government Areas and also to ensure athletes receive the best support.
“It is essential to ensure that this event helps maintain our position as a sports powerhouse in the country.
“These untapped talents will play a significant role in our state’s future success,” Enabulele said.
Responding, Eseigbe assured Enabulele of his unwavering support.
He pledged to engage all stakeholders across the LGAs to ensure the success of the sports festival.
