It was a festival of hugs, laughter and old memories as former Super Falcons stars based across Europe converged in Helsinki, Finland, for a special reunion novelty match.
The emotional get-together was co-organised by ex-international and Olympian Ayisat Yusuf and the executives of the Super Falcons alumni group.
It was designed to rekindle friendship and reunite the former teammates.
Yusuf, who is based in Finland, works as a sports instructor and holds a UEFA B Licence, was recently appointed as Assistant Coach of the Super Falcons.
The veteran of three FIFA Women’s World Cups, four African Women Championships and the Beijing 2008 Olympics said reuniting her former colleagues after many years apart meant everything to her.
According to her, some of the players had not seen each other for more than 10 years since they hung their boots.

“For me, bringing us together was very important, especially after being apart and not seeing some of us for over a decade,” she said.
“Football is more than a game; it is a powerful tool that connects people, creates friendships and brings us together regardless of where life takes us.”
She said she was overwhelmed that the former Falcons honoured the invitation to Finland to relive old times.
“I’m so happy we were all able to come together, reconnect, share beautiful memories, have fun and create new ones. What a beautiful and memorable time together,” Yusuf stated.

The former defender thanked everyone who travelled from different parts of Europe to be part of the reunion, saying their presence shows the unbreakable bond football has created among them.
She also wished them safe journey back to their respective countries and urged them to keep cherishing the friendship built through the beautiful game.
