Ex Vice President Atiku Abubakar Slams Nigeria’s Senate Over Natasha’s Suspension

Former Nigeria’s Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has described the six-month suspension slammed on Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, as a attack on affirmative action and a clear attempt to silence women’s voices in leadership.

Abubakar who’s statement came on the heels of the International Women’s Day, strongly condemned the suspension of the Kogi Central Senator.

He accused Nigerian leaders of not doing enough to create an environment that enables women to thrive and contribute to the country’s development.

He emphasized the importance of encouraging and empowering women to participate fully in governance.

According to the former Vice President, the suspension of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan undermines fairness, representation, and gender inclusivity in governance.

He said: “Women must be encouraged and empowered to participate fully in governance, not silenced when they take leadership roles.”

He, however, praised Nigerian women for their resilience, hard work, and courage, calling them the backbone of society.

He highlighted the vital roles women play in homes, workplaces, and governance, and their immeasurable contributions to nation-building.

“On this International Women’s Day 2025, I reaffirm my commitment to advancing, including, and protecting women’s rights in Nigeria.

“A nation can only progress when its women are given the space and opportunity to thrive,” Abubakar added.
