The Ondo State Government has reitrated its commitment to women’s empowerment with cash empowerment initiative, to improve the economic well-being of women, particularly those in marginalized communities.
The Special Adviser to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Women Affairs, Dr. Oluwaseun Osamaye, disclosed this on Friday in an interview with 247nextnews.com.
She disclosed that 1,000 women across the State will receive ₦35,000 each to support their businesses, an initiative she said aligns with the UN’s 2025 theme, “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment”.
International Women’s Day is observed on March 8 of every year.
Dr. Osamaye stressed that the initiative signifies the government’s dedication to women’s welfare beyond mere rhetoric and echoed Governor Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to making life easier for women in the State.
The Governor’s aide disclosed that the beneficiaries which include petty traders, street sweepers, and women professionals from various sectors like health, mining, and engineering, were selected without lobbying.
She noted that the ₦35,000 disbursement, an equivalent to half Nigeria’s minimum wage, was intended to provide a crucial boost to the women’s existing businesses.
“Governor Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa recognizes women as critical stakeholders in the state’s development. Tomorrow is not just a day for celebration; it’s a day for tangible empowerment.
“This government is for all. We went directly to where these women are, identified them, and brought them on board,” she added.
