Drama unfolded in Katsina on Tuesday after Katsina United defender Chinedu Ozor was pronounced dead, only to show signs of life hours later at the mortuary.

The 30-year-old right-back collapsed 10 to 13 minutes into a pre-season friendly against Niger Tornadoes at Muhammadu Dikko Stadium. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where a doctor confirmed him dead.
Following the announcement, Katsina United released a statement and condolences flooded in from NPFL clubs including Kano Pillars and Heartland, Ozor’s former teams.
However, the story took a shocking turn at Katsina General Hospital. According to sports journalist Prince CJ, Ozor’s hand was seen moving while his body was at the mortuary. He was immediately taken back to the ICU and placed on oxygen.
Pulse.ng reports that Katsina United media officer Nasir Gide confirmed the events, saying proper procedures were followed. Heartland FC also updated fans on X, saying Ozor was now receiving treatment.

As of now, Ozor remains in intensive care and neither the club nor the hospital has given a full medical update. The circumstances around the initial death pronouncement are still unclear.

Ozor joined Katsina United this season after stints with Abia Warriors, Lobi Stars, Sunshine Stars, Heartland and Kano Pillars.
