Meranda Openly Resigned As Speaker, Obasa Alleges

Mudashiru Obasa, the impeached Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Thursday evening alleged that Mojisola Meranda who was elected to replace him, has resigned.

He stated this on Channels TV’s programme, Politics Today.

He said that Meranda had earlier in the day told leaders of the Lagos All Progressives Congress at a meeting in Marina that she had resigned.

When questioned why Meranda’s  security aides were withdrawn while his own were restored, Obasa said:

“When my own security personnel were removed even when I was not around without my knowledge, without my consent, did I complain?

“There was a meeting that took place in Marina where we had in attendance all the party leaders. Openly Meranda herself made the statement  that she had stepped down, she had resigned.

“So when you resign from an office, the paraphernalia of the office would be taken away. What are you saying?”

Obasa who had insisted that his removal by 36 of the 40 members of the House was invalid, stated that he remained Speaker.

He said, “I have always said this that I have never been removed from office. I am not against any removal.

“If you are going to do that, you must follow the rules of the House. It is constitutional to impeach and remove. You have to follow the dictates of the Constitution,” he added.

247nextnews.com report that earlier on Thursday, Obasa stormed the Lagos House of Assembly under heavy security and presided over a plenary with only four members in attendance.
