No fewer than 29,260 JSS 3 students sat for the examination conducted at designated across the country.

Speaking at the Federal Science and Technical College Uromi, one of the two centers in Edo State, NABTEB’s Registrar/CEO, Dr. Mohammed Aminu Mohammed, commended the Federal Government and the Ministry of Education for the TVET initiative, which he said has brought attractiveness to Nigeria’s Technical Colleges.

Mohammed who was represented by NABTEB’s Director of Research and Quality Assurance, Pius Osaigbovo, disclosed that only candidates who registered online were allowed to write the examination, as the portal had been closed since June 12, 2025.

He, however, attributed the leap from over 7,547 who sat for the examinations in 2024 to 29,260 in 2025, to the incentives the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, introduced into technical education.

He said: “The total candidates for this years examination is 29,260. Last year we have 7,547, you can see the leap, because of the incentives the federal ministry of education has introduced into it.

“Federal government want to give individual a surviving skill, a skill that is relevant, a skill that makes them employers of labour and be useful to themselves and the society.

“At the end of the training, the candidates would be given dual certificate by NABTEB, the usual NTC/NBTC technical school and NSQ certificate, a skill-based on competency and this is the drive of the federal government.

“The drive of the federal government is that of a skill-based education. In the TVET, we are going to have three years programme and  it is going to be 80 percent technical and 20 percent theory,” he added.

The NABTEB boss who commended the peaceful conduct of the examination, expressed optimism that Nigerians are beginning to embrace technical and vocational education, going by the massive enrolment by students seeking placements in federal government science and  technical colleges nationwide.
