The Chief Judge of Bauchi, Justice Rabi Umar, has expressed concern over increasing cases of witchcraft in the State.
Umar who spoke while reviewing cases of awaiting trial at the Jama’are Maximum Correctional Centre in Bauchi, described the concept of witchcraft as a challenge to legal jurisprudence.
According to her, cases of witchcraft can hardly be established in court, unless a witch confesses to be one.
She said: “If you are not a witch, you cannot know who is a witch. It is an issue that could hardly be established unless the witch confesses to be one.”
247nextnews.com reports that cases of witchcraft are commonplace in most African countries.
Many have been killed or ostracized from their families or communities based on mere allegations.
