Orbih Lacks Power To Sack, Appoint Exco – Nehikhare

The Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Edo State, has berated the party’s zonal vice chairman (South-South) Dan Orbih, for allegedly appointing a parallel committee for Edo and Bayelsa chapters.

The Caretaker Committee Publicity Secretary in Edo, Chris Nehikhare, while addressing journalists in Benin, dismissed Orbih’s claims that he has sacked the PDP Zonal Committee Excos in Bayelsa and Edo.

Nehikhare who accused Orbih of running APC arm of PDP, added that he has no authority to sack any excos.

“Only the national body of our party that has the authority, the power, constitutional power to set up caretaker committees.

“It is the National Working Committee, the National Executive Committee that also organizes Congresses from the  ward to the state and local government to the zonal and the national convention,” he said.

Nehikhare added that the party’s congress has not been held, particularly in the south south zone to unveil the new party executives.

“What we have is the Caretaker Committee in the South South zone headed by Emmanuel Ogidi and not Dan Orbih.” Nehikhare said.

He noted that Orbih is now in the APC following his unsolicited praises for the APC led government in Edo State.

247nextnews.com reports that Orbih, on Tuesday announced that he had appointed parallel caretaker committees to run the party in Edo and Bayelsa States, thereby deepening the crisis rocking the party.

The announcement was contained in a press statement dated March 22, 2025, and signed by the factional zonal publicity secretary, Prince Etim Isong, sighted on some social media platforms.

He said the decision was taken at its regular meeting held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Tuesday, March 22, 2025.

Titled, “PDP Appoints Caretaker Committee for Bayelsa and Edo States”, the statement said the committees have three months to run the party in the two states.
