The Edo State Government has postponed the resumption for the second term of the 2025/2026 academic session of all public and private primary and secondary schools in the central senatorial district, until further notice.
The State Commissioner for Education, Paddy Iyamu, in a statement on Monday, said the postponement was to enable the government to address some exigencies for the improvement of the welfare of children.
The statement reads in part: “This is to inform the general public, particularly parents, school heads, and proprietors, that the resumption of all public and private schools in Edo Central Senatorial District for the Second Term of the 2025/2026 academic session has been postponed until further notice.
“This is to enable us address some exigencies to improve the welfare of our children. The new date of resumption will be duly communicated to the public in due course.”
The requested parents, guardians, and all education stakeholders within the district to take note of the development and comply accordingly.
247nextnews.com however reports that the postponement might not be uncommected with the recent upsurge in kidnapping and last Saturday’s protest in Ekpoma, during which one of the protesters was allegedly shot by an army operative.
Independent sources also alleged that two other persons lost their lives during the protest.
