A tragic road crash that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, has claimed the lives of 12 persons.

The crash involved a Toyota Hiace bus travellings from Abuja toward Benin City and an articulated truck.

The Edo Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Cyril Mathew, who confirmed the incident, said all the occupants of the bus were burnt to death, the driver of the truck and his conductor escaped unhurt.

He added that incident occurred at about 5 am, close to an Army checkpoint, at Igueoviobo community, along the Benin-Auchi Road.

“The bus took off from Zuba, Federal Capital Territory heading towards Benin but collided with a truck heading towards Auchi, killing the whole occupants of the bus.

“It  happened on Saturday morning. There must have been fatigue from the driver coming from Abuja and the driver may have slept off and in the process, had a collision with truck.

“They were burnt and we were able to contact the deceased relations because we were able to get the vehicle manifest,” he said.

Matthew advised drivers to always stop and relax for some minutes whenever they experience fatigue on the road, before continuing their journey.
