Two persons believed to be members of a vigilante group were crushed to death by an articulated truck on the Ugbowo-Lagos Road, in Benin, Edo State, South-South Nigeria.
The sad and unfortunate incident occurred on Tuesday, at about 12 noon, on the busy road, by the University of Benin (UNIBEN) gate.
Identities of the victims yet to be ascertained.
Eyewitnesses recounted that the victims were riding on a motorcycle when the truck hit them from behind, crushing their heads crushed beyond recognition.
It was gathered that their remains have been taken to an undisclosed mortuary.
An eyewitness who asked not to be named, said: “The two bodies have been deposited in the mortuary. The accident occurred right in front of the UNIBEN maingate just a few minutes past 12 noon.
“The two men were vigilantes riding on motorbike on the Ugbowo-Lagos highway when the accident occurred.”
Meanwhile, police are yet to confirm the incident, as calls to the State Command spokesperson, CSP Moses Yamu, failed to connect.
