UNIMED Acting VC Prof. Adolphus Loto Assumes Duty

Prof. Adolphus Loto, on Monday resumed duty as Acting Vice Chancellor of University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo.
He will serve pending the assumption of office of the newly appointed Substantive Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe.

Loto’s appointment came following the expiration of the tenure of the second substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Adesegun Fatusi, on Sunday, March 9, 2025.

In an exclusive interview with 247nextnews.com, Prof. Loto outlined transparency, accountability, and inclusivity in his vision for the institution.

He also pledged to foster a culture of equity and justice, even as he emphasized the importance of unity within the university community.

“I have certain basic principles that I want everybody to know: transparency, accountability, probity, inclusivity, equity, and justice,” he stated.

Considering the nature of his appointment, the Professor of Dentistry expressed his commitment to serving the University, even for a short period that he will be in the saddle.

“Since it has come, I have no option but to take the responsibility. Even if it’s just for one day, I will do all that I can to make the University better,” he said.

Loto who is known for his previous publications on alleged misappropriation of funds within the University, confirmed his intention to revisit the issues.

He disclosed that he will present his findings to an upcoming visitation panel for independent review.

“Yes, because there is a visitation plan that’s coming, I think this will be an opportunity to review so that there will be a third party to look at what I presented before,” he explained.

Commenting on the issue of the estranged staff members, Professor Loto who acknowledged the impact of their absence, encouraged them to return to the University.

“For me, they only chicken out. I will encourage them because they have a big effect. If you come back, that will be no longer there,” he added.

Prof. Loto studied Dentistry at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos. He specialises in Restorative Dentistry.
