Urgent, Important Message For Millions Of Ecobank Customers

Ecobank Nigeria has announced an upward review of its SMS notification charges it described as a new tariff structure.

Effective May 1, 2025, customers of the bank will pay ₦6 per message, as against ₦5 previously charged.

The upward review was communicated to customers via SMS.

The official message to account holders reads: “We would like to inform you that the cost of SMS notification will increase from ₦5 to ₦6 effective May 1, 2025, due to a revised tariff.”

While acknowledging that the increment may cause some discomfort to customers, the bank said it was a decision made after thorough evaluation.

“We understand that this change may cause some inconvenience and want to assure you that the decision was made after careful consideration,” the message continued.

Ecobank reiterated its commitment to customer satisfaction and efficient service delivery despite prevailing economic challenges.

“We remain committed to delivering the best possible service and sincerely appreciate your understanding and continued support,” it added.

Customers with inquiries or concerns have been encouraged to reach out to the bank’s 24/7 contact centre for assistance.

The increase, though seemingly marginal, has raised concerns among some customers who say the cumulative cost of banking services is rising amid widespread inflation.

The adjustment by Ecobank comes amid growing calls for banks to provide more flexible and affordable digital banking alternatives to cushion the impact on customers.
