The immediate past Commissioner for Energy and Water Resources in Edo State, Mr. Washington Osifo, has officially joined the race for election for the Uhunmwode/Orhionmwon federal constituency, in next year’s national assembly election, on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He made the announcement on Wednesday in Benin, while giving reasons why he took the bold step to comply with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s directive to political appointees interested in contesting for elective office to resign from his cabinet.
Osifo who stressed that his decision to contest was borne out of his desire to provide better representation for his people in the green chamber, said over the years his constituency has been the worst in terms of development.
“I want to go to a place where I have to crack my brain, confront new challenges, provide new answers that will leave your mark in another level. This is where I seek to serve my people. I called myself three years ago whereas my people are the ones calling me now,” he stated.
Osifo who will be battling for the ticket for the Uhunmwode/Orhionmwon federal constituency with the incumbent, Billy Osawaru in a primary coming up in a couple of months time ahead of the general election slated for early 2027, appealed for partnership with the media on his journey to the house of representatives in 2027.
“I recognize you. I know your importance and I have come to seek for your partnership and blessing. It will be on record that I started the journey here. It would be on record that I rely on your guidance, prayers and support,” he said.
